RAF Lakenheath is home to the 48th Fighter Wing, or Statue of Liberty Wing, making it the only USAF wing with both a number and a name. Since activation July 10, 1952, Liberty Wing has been one of the premier fighter wings of the United States Air Forces in Europe. The base is home to the 492d, 493d, and 494th F-15 squadrons.
